Diet and acne

Is diet and acne related?

For several years, the common view was diet had completely no impact on acne. However some scientists are reviewing this concept.

Researchers assume carbohydrates with a high glycemic index, that induce glucose and insulin levels to increase, may affect the development and severity of acne. On the other hand, a diet high in protein and carbohydrates with a low glycemic index appeared to improve acne outbreaks.

In one study, 43 males, between 15 and 25 years old, were divided into two groups. One group was presented foods items with a low glycemic index, such as whole grain breads and pasta, legumes, and also high protein meals. The 2nd group was given a more "common" teen diet containing white bread, potatoes, and sugary beverages and snacks.

After TWELVE weeks, those in the high protein-low glycemic index group showed a 50% decrease of acne. The outcomes tend to reveal a possible link between diet and acne breakouts . Therefore low carbohydrate and low sugar is the best way to go with less or no acne.
