Pimples or acne is not only a common problem for young people, but also for adults. Imagine attending a meeting at work with a huge pimple on the nose or forehead and feel self-conscious the whole time. Stress, an imbalanced diet and lifestyle are the most common causes of acne. Spending long hours at work and not being able to get the right amount of sleep can also cause breakouts.

Treating adult acne nowadays is easier because of the new advancements in technology. If the acne on your skin is mild and highly treatable, products and cleansers from drug stores might be effective for cleaning acne. However, if the problem persists, you may want to seek help from a dermatologist to find out the root of the problem and be able to do something about it.

Switch facial products when treating adult acne. Throw away the cleanser and moisturizer you were using during the teenage years. Even if the product worked before, your hormones change so you could benefit from other toners that is more apt for your adult skin.

Be sure to have a facial regimen. No matter how clear your skin is, it always helps to have a regular regimen whether it’s something you follow before going to work and ending the day before going to sleep. Don’t sleep with makeup on and use a good makeup remover to clear the skin, unclog the pores and prevent it from producing oils.

Some people prefer laser treatments to reduce the appearance of acne with bonuses of getting rid of lines and wrinkles. While these are effective measures, they are also a bit complicated so be sure to have a talk with the experts before even considering the option. Ask for the side effects (if any) and the entire procedure before undergoing through it.

Treating adult acne may also need a lifestyle change, especially if the hormones are not balanced. This is more common for women than men during the menstrual cycle. A good method of regulating the hormones would be a balanced diet and exercise. This can decrease production of oil glands and thus preventing breakouts.

Acne is in its active stage during the puberty and teenage stage. This is because of the changes of hormones in the body and a way of coping. Here are some of the basic methods of teenage acne treatment.

Hygiene is very important. Washing the face at least twice a day helps unclog the pores and prevent the appearance of whiteheads and blackheads. Washing also helps remove oil from the skin so breakouts don’t occur as often. When choosing a facial wash, be sure to select washes rather than scrubs. Scrubs claim to have an exfoliating effect and remove twice the dirt, but they can also leave the skin dry and may even scar the skin if overused. An oil-free hypoallergenic moisturizer may be applied after washing.

Teenage acne treatment also includes astringents and toners for the skin. Be picky with toners that contain alcohol. The myth with alcohol-based toners is that they are more effective than the mild ones. While this is partially true, these alcohol-based products also cause the skin to become dry and flaky and may even increase the appearance of blemishes.

Keep your hands away from your face. While this advice may sound simple, this is actually true. Imagine all the bacteria that have accumulated from touching stuff all day, and then imagine all these dirt coming in contact and staying on your facial skin. Diseases usually come from viruses and if we don’t wash our hands that much, then we might get sick or develop acne.

Avoid using too much cosmetic products. Makeup is used daily especially for women, but if we can just stick with the basic face powder and lipstick, the better. This is because cosmetic products contain other ingredients which might be harmful for the skin. If we can’t go on everyday life without makeup, make sure to have a good cleanser for wiping it completely. Never sleep with makeup. This is a top rule in teenage acne treatment. Doing so can cause the cosmetic products to stay on your skin overnight, clog your pores, and leave your skin dirty the next day.

Body acne is believed to be genetic. This means that if your parents are prone to body acne, there is also an increased chance that you have to deal with it. If you are one of those people struggling to find the body acne treatment, don’t fret because below are some of the tips that can be easily followed to treat acne.

As the saying goes, “Cleanliness is next to Godliness.” This holds true for preventing pimples. When taking a bath, use only soaps that have mild ingredients and be sure to cleanse the body all over so that dirt doesn’t build up. When choosing clothing, go for those that have breathable fabric like cotton. After a workout, take a shower and be sure to wipe off sweat so that your skin is clean and fresh. These measures can also prevent skin irritation.

Other causes of body acne would be wearing backpacks for a long time. Doctors who have patients undergoing body acne treatment advise the patients to not wear backpacks for a long time because excessive sweating might cause acne in the long run.

Acne also breaks our when the skin is too dry or too oily. If you have excessively dry skin, use a moisturizer to hydrate your skin. If you have dry skin on the other hand, use oil-free soaps and lotions so as not to increase the production of oil glands. Just like pimples on the face, body acne should never be pricked. Squeezing the pimple will just cause it to scar and leave blemishes on your skin.

There are a lot of home remedies for body acne treatment. One of the most popular treatments is the use of ripe tomato pulp. When applied on the body for an hour, it helps to reduce the appearance of acne and scars. If you don’t have too sensitive skin, you may try applying lemon juice on your body and leave it overnight. The lemon juice extracts are known to be very effective in clearing out acne spots. Ice is also used to reduce appearance of acne. Grated potatoes also help decrease appearance of blackheads and pimples in the body.

Pimples are a common problem in the face. Sometimes, they are also present in the body and develop at the back. The common causes of back acne would be sweat and hygiene. Wearing tight-fitting clothes made of spandex materials are also some of the clothing that should be avoided to prevent the appearance of pimples.

After exercise, it is also recommended to take a shower and never let sweat stay on the skin. Back acne treatment begins with proper hygiene. If you go to the gym regularly, make sure to change undergarments frequently. You may want to use a hypo-allergenic baby powder to keep your back dry. Put a clean towel over your mat or other surfaces that come in contact with the body to keep bacteria away.

Back acne treatment depends on how stubborn the acne is. On the early stages of back acne, try switching soaps with salicylic-based body washes or cleansers. These help dry up acne on the skin and can unclog the pores. Benzoyl peroxide is also one of the most effective ingredients for treating acne, whether it is on the face or at the back.

Back acne treatment usually consists of ointments or oral prescriptions. The reason why back acne should be treated immediately is to prevent scarring and blemishes. Once your skin is blemished, this requires a new treatment altogether to get rid of the dark spots.

One of the best home remedies for back acne treatment is the mixture of sodium hydroxide (usually found in soaps) and tea tree oil. Aside from treating pimples, this also softens the skin and keeps it hydrated. Other changes that you could try include maintaining a balanced diet mainly composed of fruits and vegetables. Drinking more than the usual eight glasses of water a day also helps the skin. Vitamins and supplements may also be taken so that the appearance of acne may be reduced.

If the back acne becomes worse everyday and none of the meds and ointments seem to be working, you may want to consult with a dermatologist early on. The doctor will more likely help you identify the root of the problem and prescribe acne-clearing meds.

The development of acne during a woman’s pregnancy is common. Pimples are sometimes caused by changes in the body especially with the hormones. Acne treatment during pregnancy is something that should be done with proper care. This is due to the harsh ingredients that pimple-fighting products usually have. The ironic thing about this is that your skin is more prone to acne during pregnancy, yet you can’t use the best meds to treat them.

The best way to treat acne during pregnancy would be to use natural methods like eating healthier and keeping the skin hydrated by drinking lots of water. Over-the-counter meds might have ingredients that can harm the health of the baby. For instance, meds and ointments that contain tretinoin can easily reduce breakouts. However, tretinoin should be avoided during pregnancy because the side effects might be birth defects and miscarriage.

Accutane is also a drug that is taken orally to prevent acne, but shouldn’t be part of the acne treatment during pregnancy. Studies have proven that these medications expose the babies into defects in the nervous system and heart defects. The worst things that could happen would be miscarriage and infant deaths.

Erythromycin might be the safest medication for treating acne. Whether it’s taken orally or an ointment, they are safe for use because of the natural bacteria that the body can take. If the acne condition is severe though, erythromycin might not work as much.

Basically, a woman should be careful when treating acne if she’s with child. This is because the body is more sensitive and might cause certain ailments to the baby. Home remedies are still the best methods to choose and follow. Supplements and ointments also claim to have herbal and natural ingredients to the skin. It is still best to consult with dermatologists before use of the products before even using them.

Acne treatment during pregnancy also involves careful selection of makeup and cosmetic products. See if you can survive the day without wearing makeup. Include sunscreen that is hypoallergenic to protect your skin as well. Remember that acne is common to pregnant women and to feel beautiful throughout the whole nine months.

Sulfur is said to have been used as a treatment for acne for thousands of years now. It cleans out pores but, at the same time, lessens the growth of bacteria on the affected part of the body or the area where the acne is occurring. In general, sulfur acne treatment will cause drying of the skin.

Topical creams using sulfur treat a variety of conditions aside from acne. The affected areas of the body may respond more quickly to a sulfur treatment. The main reason for this seems to be the fact that sulfur is a keratolytic agent, which means that it accelerates the removal of dead skin cells and frees up the pores. It can also heal comedones. Sulfur is also said to be able to limit the amount of key acids present that is responsible for the growth of acne-causing bacteria.

Sulfur can also be combined with other materials that will enable it to soothe the affected area and decrease inflammation. Some of these materials include tea tree leaf oil or geranium extract.

There are some down side too. For instance, there is the possibility of skin discoloration and an unpleasant odor. Certain people may also have allergic reactions to sulfur-based products. In this case, a consultation is necessary. In certain cases, sulfur-based products can still be used, but only under special monitoring.

Make sure that you also read the indications on the product that you are using. Some products can be left on overnight while there are some that you should wash off after only a few minutes on. It will also fall on your doctor to say how ‘strong’ the sulfur acne treatment product you are planning to use should be, otherwise, you may end up harming your skin even more. Also, never put any sulfur on skin that is damaged. It will only impede healing.

There is said to be a few side effects for this drug but usage should still be stopped immediately if rashes, fever, or swelling occur. In this case, you need to have it brought to your doctor for medical attention.

Over the counter acne treatment may be one of the faster options when it comes to providing a cure for acne. There are actually a number of drugs that can help acne. At least four will be discussed in this article.

The first one is salicylic acid. Salicylic acid can be found in many drugs or medications, particularly topical applications, used to treat acne. Aside from acne, salicylic acid is also being used to treat other skin conditions such as warts, dandruff, corns, calluses, psoriasis and corns. What salicylic does, basically, is to slow down the shedding of cells inside the follicle, preventing too much dead skin clogging the pores and causing a pimple. There may be a mild sting when using a product. It is not recommended that you use salicylic acid together with other over the counter acne treatment.

Products containing sulfur are also used to treat acne. Sulfur, on the other hand, dries up the skin and causes shedding – quite opposite to the preventive action done by salicylic. While it is effective in removing existing acne, it may also cause more cell adhesion, potentially causing other breakouts later on. Side effects of using sulfur include a bad smell and skin discoloration. Peeling and redness may also occur.

There are also products containing Resorcinol. Resorcinol is usually used together with one other over the counter acne treatment. It is usually combined with sulfur and does a similar thing to acne, which is to break down existing dead skin that has clumped together. Because of this, it can be an irritant on the skin and it is not recommended to add on other cleansers or alcohol-based skin products while using this.

Benzoyl Peroxide, on the other hand, is an antibacterial agent. Bezoyl Peroxide kills the P. Acnes bacteria, which is the bacteria primarily responsible for the occurrence of acne. Mild drying and peeling are some of the side effects you may experience. There is a small chance that an allergic reaction may occur (around 3% are said to be allergic to Benzoyl Peroxide) and it can also bleach hair or fabric.

As anyone who has ever experienced an outbreak of acne knows, it can be one of the most uncomfortable things to go through. What happens when you have a really bad case of acne and there is really nothing for it but to get a quick treatment? The answer lies in using a home treatment for acne.

Acne is caused by the Propionibacterium acnes. It feeds on excess oil and dead skin – a skin environment that is aggravated by an unhealthy lifestyle and polluted or dirty surroundings. It can also be due to the onset of adolescent or the teenage years, which considerably affects hormonal balance.

One way to start working with acne is by opening up the pores. For this, you can use the steam from hot water or a hot compress. Staying in a hot shower for about 15 minutes will also work. For hot compress or steam, give it at least 10 minutes in order to open up your pores. Opening up your pores will help to clean it more thoroughly, washing out the dirt and oil that is embedded. It will also help your skin to ‘breathe’, easing up the inflammation and some of the itchiness.

Once your pores are open, you may opt to use plain water or a cold cream to cleanse your pores. Do not use soap as this will only dry your skin. Although you may be concerned that the oil content of cold creams will only exacerbate the oiliness of your skin, the fact is, it will not stimulate oil production on your face. It will simply dissolve the oil on your face. Soap will more likely cause this effect since it will dry out your face.

To close your pores, rinse with warm water (to avoid any residue if you are using creams or non-soap alternatives) and then finish with cold water. To complete this home treatment for acne, crushing plain aspirin – about one to two tablets will do – in a half-cup of water and apply lightly on your face using cotton balls. Aspirin has salicylic acid which can be useful in fighting acne.

If you have had a long-term breakout of acne and want a more lasting solution to your dermatological woes, then a laser acne treatment may just be the thing for you. More than just eliminating the blackhead, pimples and whiteheads on your face, laser treatment can actually shrink the size of the sebaceous glands on your face – glands responsible for producing the oil on your face.

What causes acne itself is the immune system of the body fighting off the bacteria feeding off the excess oil and dirt on your face. Since excess oil tends to clog your pores and attracts dirt to your face, minimizing the amount of oil may produce considerable improvement with regards to the level of acne breakout you are experiencing.
Undergoing a laser acne treatment can also serve to eliminate or at least lessen the acne scars on your face – the lesions that you may have on your face as a result of previous acne outbreaks. Even blemishes can be removed using laser treatments. This may take a longer period of time, though.

Laser treatment is generally a more expensive option. This is because laser treatment also needs to go hand-in-hand with other prescription acne treatment which includes over-the-counter medications. The number of sessions for a laser acne treatment will depend on the severity of the case. On the average, about five to six sessions may be needed. For less severe cases, fewer sessions may be needed. More sessions will be needed for more severe cases, often up to nine or ten sessions.
The procedure is not entirely painless although analgesics are or can be applied to minimize or eliminate discomfort. The overall experience of patients with regards to sensation seems to be akin to the skin being pulled tight.

There are actually different types of laser treatments for acne in the market. One is the acne laser smoothbeam. There are also treatments for body acne. Other laser treatments include the light treatment – which is said to be quick and painless – and the clearlight treatment – which seems to be recommended for a wider age group.

One of the components of over the counter medications for acne is benzoyl peroxide. Benzoyl peroxide is said to kill the bacteria Propionibacterium acnes, thought to be the primary cause of acne. It also causes a mild drying of the skin which leads to peeling.

There are actually many brand names of benzoyl peroxide acne treatment. Some of them can only be obtained if you can present a doctor’s prescription. Aside from acne, they can also be used to treat other conditions such as bed sores or stasis ulcer, although you should always have a doctor’s prescription before using it.

There are many factors that one should consider before using benzoyl peroxide acne treatment. One is the possibility of an allergic reaction. Generally, this treatment is only prescribed for those 12 years and above because the risk of allergies (particularly for those in the younger age segment) is smaller. Whether the individual is also on other medications should also be considered. Drug interaction can occur and there may be a need to change the dosage or observe other precautions. Certain problems that could also be aggravated by using the drug should also be considered. These conditions include eczema, sunburned skin, and dermatitis.

It is important to stick to your doctor’s prescription when using benzoyl peroxide acne treatment. If the medication you are using is topical in nature, never apply near the eyes, lips and inside the nose. If the medicine comes in contact with these areas, immediately wash with water since you do not want any inflammation occurring. Keep away from sunburned or windburned skin and take great care to prevent it from getting into contact with any wound. Pre-application prescription applies. This includes carefully washing the area where you will be applying it. Make sure to read the patient directions thoroughly. Benzoyl peroxide medications can also come in other forms such as shaving creams and facial masks.
