Sulfur is said to have been used as a treatment for acne for thousands of years now. It cleans out pores but, at the same time, lessens the growth of bacteria on the affected part of the body or the area where the acne is occurring. In general, sulfur acne treatment will cause drying of the skin.

Topical creams using sulfur treat a variety of conditions aside from acne. The affected areas of the body may respond more quickly to a sulfur treatment. The main reason for this seems to be the fact that sulfur is a keratolytic agent, which means that it accelerates the removal of dead skin cells and frees up the pores. It can also heal comedones. Sulfur is also said to be able to limit the amount of key acids present that is responsible for the growth of acne-causing bacteria.

Sulfur can also be combined with other materials that will enable it to soothe the affected area and decrease inflammation. Some of these materials include tea tree leaf oil or geranium extract.

There are some down side too. For instance, there is the possibility of skin discoloration and an unpleasant odor. Certain people may also have allergic reactions to sulfur-based products. In this case, a consultation is necessary. In certain cases, sulfur-based products can still be used, but only under special monitoring.

Make sure that you also read the indications on the product that you are using. Some products can be left on overnight while there are some that you should wash off after only a few minutes on. It will also fall on your doctor to say how ‘strong’ the sulfur acne treatment product you are planning to use should be, otherwise, you may end up harming your skin even more. Also, never put any sulfur on skin that is damaged. It will only impede healing.

There is said to be a few side effects for this drug but usage should still be stopped immediately if rashes, fever, or swelling occur. In this case, you need to have it brought to your doctor for medical attention.

Over the counter acne treatment may be one of the faster options when it comes to providing a cure for acne. There are actually a number of drugs that can help acne. At least four will be discussed in this article.

The first one is salicylic acid. Salicylic acid can be found in many drugs or medications, particularly topical applications, used to treat acne. Aside from acne, salicylic acid is also being used to treat other skin conditions such as warts, dandruff, corns, calluses, psoriasis and corns. What salicylic does, basically, is to slow down the shedding of cells inside the follicle, preventing too much dead skin clogging the pores and causing a pimple. There may be a mild sting when using a product. It is not recommended that you use salicylic acid together with other over the counter acne treatment.

Products containing sulfur are also used to treat acne. Sulfur, on the other hand, dries up the skin and causes shedding – quite opposite to the preventive action done by salicylic. While it is effective in removing existing acne, it may also cause more cell adhesion, potentially causing other breakouts later on. Side effects of using sulfur include a bad smell and skin discoloration. Peeling and redness may also occur.

There are also products containing Resorcinol. Resorcinol is usually used together with one other over the counter acne treatment. It is usually combined with sulfur and does a similar thing to acne, which is to break down existing dead skin that has clumped together. Because of this, it can be an irritant on the skin and it is not recommended to add on other cleansers or alcohol-based skin products while using this.

Benzoyl Peroxide, on the other hand, is an antibacterial agent. Bezoyl Peroxide kills the P. Acnes bacteria, which is the bacteria primarily responsible for the occurrence of acne. Mild drying and peeling are some of the side effects you may experience. There is a small chance that an allergic reaction may occur (around 3% are said to be allergic to Benzoyl Peroxide) and it can also bleach hair or fabric.

As anyone who has ever experienced an outbreak of acne knows, it can be one of the most uncomfortable things to go through. What happens when you have a really bad case of acne and there is really nothing for it but to get a quick treatment? The answer lies in using a home treatment for acne.

Acne is caused by the Propionibacterium acnes. It feeds on excess oil and dead skin – a skin environment that is aggravated by an unhealthy lifestyle and polluted or dirty surroundings. It can also be due to the onset of adolescent or the teenage years, which considerably affects hormonal balance.

One way to start working with acne is by opening up the pores. For this, you can use the steam from hot water or a hot compress. Staying in a hot shower for about 15 minutes will also work. For hot compress or steam, give it at least 10 minutes in order to open up your pores. Opening up your pores will help to clean it more thoroughly, washing out the dirt and oil that is embedded. It will also help your skin to ‘breathe’, easing up the inflammation and some of the itchiness.

Once your pores are open, you may opt to use plain water or a cold cream to cleanse your pores. Do not use soap as this will only dry your skin. Although you may be concerned that the oil content of cold creams will only exacerbate the oiliness of your skin, the fact is, it will not stimulate oil production on your face. It will simply dissolve the oil on your face. Soap will more likely cause this effect since it will dry out your face.

To close your pores, rinse with warm water (to avoid any residue if you are using creams or non-soap alternatives) and then finish with cold water. To complete this home treatment for acne, crushing plain aspirin – about one to two tablets will do – in a half-cup of water and apply lightly on your face using cotton balls. Aspirin has salicylic acid which can be useful in fighting acne.

If you have had a long-term breakout of acne and want a more lasting solution to your dermatological woes, then a laser acne treatment may just be the thing for you. More than just eliminating the blackhead, pimples and whiteheads on your face, laser treatment can actually shrink the size of the sebaceous glands on your face – glands responsible for producing the oil on your face.

What causes acne itself is the immune system of the body fighting off the bacteria feeding off the excess oil and dirt on your face. Since excess oil tends to clog your pores and attracts dirt to your face, minimizing the amount of oil may produce considerable improvement with regards to the level of acne breakout you are experiencing.
Undergoing a laser acne treatment can also serve to eliminate or at least lessen the acne scars on your face – the lesions that you may have on your face as a result of previous acne outbreaks. Even blemishes can be removed using laser treatments. This may take a longer period of time, though.

Laser treatment is generally a more expensive option. This is because laser treatment also needs to go hand-in-hand with other prescription acne treatment which includes over-the-counter medications. The number of sessions for a laser acne treatment will depend on the severity of the case. On the average, about five to six sessions may be needed. For less severe cases, fewer sessions may be needed. More sessions will be needed for more severe cases, often up to nine or ten sessions.
The procedure is not entirely painless although analgesics are or can be applied to minimize or eliminate discomfort. The overall experience of patients with regards to sensation seems to be akin to the skin being pulled tight.

There are actually different types of laser treatments for acne in the market. One is the acne laser smoothbeam. There are also treatments for body acne. Other laser treatments include the light treatment – which is said to be quick and painless – and the clearlight treatment – which seems to be recommended for a wider age group.

One of the components of over the counter medications for acne is benzoyl peroxide. Benzoyl peroxide is said to kill the bacteria Propionibacterium acnes, thought to be the primary cause of acne. It also causes a mild drying of the skin which leads to peeling.

There are actually many brand names of benzoyl peroxide acne treatment. Some of them can only be obtained if you can present a doctor’s prescription. Aside from acne, they can also be used to treat other conditions such as bed sores or stasis ulcer, although you should always have a doctor’s prescription before using it.

There are many factors that one should consider before using benzoyl peroxide acne treatment. One is the possibility of an allergic reaction. Generally, this treatment is only prescribed for those 12 years and above because the risk of allergies (particularly for those in the younger age segment) is smaller. Whether the individual is also on other medications should also be considered. Drug interaction can occur and there may be a need to change the dosage or observe other precautions. Certain problems that could also be aggravated by using the drug should also be considered. These conditions include eczema, sunburned skin, and dermatitis.

It is important to stick to your doctor’s prescription when using benzoyl peroxide acne treatment. If the medication you are using is topical in nature, never apply near the eyes, lips and inside the nose. If the medicine comes in contact with these areas, immediately wash with water since you do not want any inflammation occurring. Keep away from sunburned or windburned skin and take great care to prevent it from getting into contact with any wound. Pre-application prescription applies. This includes carefully washing the area where you will be applying it. Make sure to read the patient directions thoroughly. Benzoyl peroxide medications can also come in other forms such as shaving creams and facial masks.

Some side effects include irritation of the skin, particularly in the first three weeks, and a seeming worsening of the acne condition. If no improvement occurs within the first four to six weeks of your usage, it is recommended that you see your doctor.

For people who suffer from acne, the condition can be very irritating and may even cause a great deal of pain. That is why sufferers are taking all necessary measures to treat acne in the hope that they can finally say goodbye to this common ailment. The most popular of all solutions to acne is probably topical treatment. Here we will discuss the various acne topical treatment options to help you choose which will work best for you.

Retinoids like tretinoin, adapalene and tazarotene are among the most commonly used topical acne solutions. The retinol content of these formulations effectively increases skin cell turnover, thus promoting the expulsion of bacteria trapped in hair your follicles. As your skin sheds the harmful bacteria, the severity of your acne will be reduced along with the number of pustules on your skin. Retinoids also prevent further incidence of bacteria getting trapped in your pores or hair follicles. Take note that these products can only be purchased with a prescription from a health care provider.

Another popular acne topical treatment is a choice of antibiotics such as clindamycin, erythromycin and tetracycline. These antibiotics work by killing the bacteria that causes acne. They have also been proven to reduce acne infections and keep your pores unclogged. Like retinoids, topical antibiotics must also be prescribed by a qualified health care provider.

Benzoyl peroxide delivers results similar to those of antibiotics. It also kills acne bacteria and unblocks your pores. But unlike antibiotics, benzoyl peroxide can be purchased over the counter as long as you are buying a product with relatively low concentrations. Products with higher concentrations still require a prescription.

For more severe cases of acne, a combination of the above topical products is often recommended. This provides for a more strategic approach to battling acne. This approach is often very useful especially if you have been using topical antibiotics for quite some time because applying a combination of several acne topical treatment methods helps prevent resistance to antibiotics. Switching to combination treatment will also require you to use less of the antibiotics in order to inhibit the growth of resistant bacteria. Consult your doctor to know what combination will work best for your skin type.

Are you suffering from acne breakouts? Have you tried topical, oral and systemic treatment options to no avail? Are you looking for an alternative method to get rid of your acne once and for all? If you answered yes to any of the above questions then you may want to know more about homeopathic acne treatment.

The terminology simply refers to the use of alternative medicine in treating your acne breakouts. Knowing what specific type of alternative medication needs to be applied is highly dependent on gaining a clear understanding of what causes your acne breakouts. Acne develops when your sebaceous glands create excess oil that clogs your pores. This clogging causes bacteria to grow inside the follicles of your facial hair. Bacterial growth will then manifest in the form of inflammations, lesions and pustules.

In order to identify the appropriate homeopathic acne treatment and perform it properly, you will need the help of a qualified health care professional in pinpointing the primary factor that causes the disorder in your sebaceous glands, which causes the clogging that leads to acne. For simple cases caused by dirt or improper hygiene, the recommended homeopathic remedy can be as simple as applying hot and cold packs, or switching to pure glycerine soap.

If, however, you suffer from a more severe case of acne, you may have to make some dietary and lifestyle changes as part of your homeopathic therapy. Dietary adjustments usually mean eating more fresh fruits and vegetables and cutting down on processed food, especially those that have a high sugar, fat, or oil content. In this case you will also be asked to carefully observe which particular foods cause a breakout of pimples on your skin. Once you have identified these foods, you will have to stop eating them as well.

You will also have to start washing your face and hands on a regular schedule. If there are major stressors in your life, you will have to find ways of reducing the stress as well. Finally, always take care not to pick or bother your lesions since this action will only aggravate the condition.

If you are looking for acne home remedies, you may find that there are many for which you have readily available ingredients. Here, two home remedies that you can use for an acne outbreak will be discussed.

The first remedy is the use of mint wash. In lieu of steam or hot compress, you can use mint wash to achieve a cooling effect while opening your pores. To prepare a mint wash, all you need is 1 tsp peppermint in oil, half a cup of cool water, and a few mint Altoids. Just mix these all together. You may also use a menthol-based mouthwash if you feel comfortable. But never, under any circumstance, use one with alcohol as this can burn your skin. Use cotton balls and dab lightly. Using this can help clean the underlying excess oil and dirt.

Another one from a slew of acne home remedies is the aspirin facial mask. All you need is around one to two aspirin tablets, although some sources prescribe five up to ten. All you need to do is to crush them into powder and mix them with a small amount of water. The result is a paste that you can apply to your skin. For better results, the use of Aloe Vera gel, instead of water, is suggested. Before application, make sure to wash your face first. Make sure to clean it as thoroughly as you can. After you apply the aspirin paste, leave it on for 20 minutes. Rinse using warm water and apply moisturizer afterwards. This is good for those with very oily skin and can be done once a week. For other skin types, no more than twice a week is recommended.

Using acne home remedies is you’re best option if you have acne since it is relatively cheaper and can provide faster healing and relief. It will also pose lesser threat to your skin since there is not much chemical or treatment involved. Just pay careful attention to the results and if any exacerbation or complication occurs, make sure to consult your doctor or dermatologist right away.

An increasing number of people have begun to turn to herbal treatments to provide solutions to a lot of ills that they encounter. This is because herbal treatments seem to be more effective and seem to work where prescription drugs fail to make any difference. Herbal remedies also pose lesser threats in terms of side effects. In line with this, a good number of people also seem to be looking to herbal treatments when it comes to a very common skin affliction – acne.

Herbal acne treatments have their own advantages. For instance, herbal treatments are said to actually treat not only the symptoms but also the cause of acne itself. One example may be in detoxification diets and processes. Instead of simply removing the blackheads and pimples, it will also help to provide an overall cleansing of your body which can greatly reduce acne.

Herbal acne treatments are also said to be gentler on the body. Using more natural substances such as aloe vera, one can be sure that there are no harsh chemicals involved. They are also more affordable and can actually offer many of the functions that over-the-counter drugs do. For instance, aloe vera has cholesterol and campesterol, among others, which serve as anti-inflammatory agents. It also contains many minerals such as magnesium, copper, zinc, sodium potassium and manganese. Many of them are effective in the fight against acne. Aloe Vera is also rich in vitamins such as Vitamin C and E, both essential to healthy skin.

Speaking of Vitamin C, it is also another important component of herbal acne treatments. It is actually preferred as it is suitable for all types of skin. If you look closely, you can see Vitamin C in exfoliants, creams, and serums designed to combat acne.

You may also look into other herbal remedies such as those used for detoxification. These are usually already in syrup form and are also being sold by manufacturers across the globe. Just bear in mind that you still need to consult every time you will be taking an herbal supplement for your acne, to minimize the risks.

Salicylic acid is a popular ingredient used in many over-the-counter acne treatment products. It is primarily used to treat acne cases that do not involve inflammation and is usually manufactured in the form of creams, lotions, cleansers, or treatment pads. Salicylic acid acne treatment works by correcting the abnormal process that usually causes acne. The strength of salicylic acid lies in the fact that it effectively penetrates hair follicles. This ability makes it a powerful exfoliant that helps shed dead cells from within the follicle and keep you pores free of excess oil or cellular debris. Thus, the clogging of your pores and acne breakouts on your skin will be significantly reduced.

Over-the-counter salicylic acid acne treatment products are available in various strengths, ranging from 0.5% to 2%. It is important that you follow the specific instructions that come with the product, of course. And it is also advisable to use only one type of product at a time. Whether you prefer lotions, creams, or pads does not really matter as long as you do not use two different types simultaneously. Doing so will only make your skin very dry and will not even accelerate the healing process. As soon as your breakouts subside and your skin is cleared, you may replace the cream or lotion with a facial wash or scrub for maintenance purposes. Of course, your facial wash should still contain salicylic acid as an active ingredient.

You would do well to note that salicylic acid acne treatment products have been known to cause a bit of stinging, peeling and flaking of the skin. But these common side effects can be easily addressed with an oil-free moisturizer. Using salicylic acid together with other skin products can also aggravate the side effects so make sure you stop any other form of treatment if you decide to start on salicylic acid. If the stinging or flaking becomes too bothersome, you can try to cut back your use to every other day instead of daily. If it still does not ease up after a few days, it is best to consult your doctor. Pregnant or nursing women should also refrain from using this treatment without doctor’s advice.
